(5) DeMarcus Akeem Suggs of Neos Dance Theatre

On Episode 5 of Muse Room Podcast I’ve decided to share a conversation that I had on the other podcast I host (Neos Dance Theatre Podcast). Neos Dance Theatre is the professional dance company that I dance with. Its a contemporary ballet company founded by Bobby and Brooke Wesner in Oberlin and Akron, Ohio. I started to create a podcast for Neos a few months ago and had a conversation with DeMarcus Akeem Suggs who is the Director of Education and Outreach for Neos. He moved to Cleveland in August 2017 to open a pre-professional dance school for the company. Normally I won’t crossover between podcasts but I just thought that Muse Room listeners would enjoy this conversation as well. We chat about how he found dance, what his professional career was like, what it took to get a dance school up and running, how he hopes to impact the dance community and so much more.

Notes from the show:

-I ask him how he met Bobby, which if you aren’t familiar with Neos, you may not know who that is. He is the Artistic Director and Co-founder of Neos Dance Theatre.

-His favorite book right now is a book of poetry called, “Approaching the Fields” by Chanda Feldman.

-Favorite song at the moment is “Brooklyn in the Summer” by Aloe Blacc

-Some other musicians that he is really into are:

-Lianne La Havas

-Gregory Porter

-Ben L’oncle Soul

-Samm Henshaw
